Lucid Fly founders Nikki Layne and Doug Mecca joined forces in Orlando, Florida in 2001. On the hunt for the perfect name, a friend stumbled over an old newspaper with a headline that read Lucid Flies Into The Record Book, featuring an article on astronaut Shannon Lucid, who had broken the record for the longest duration in space by an American, as well as by a female. From that headline, Lucid Fly was born. The band exploded onto the Orlando music scene and quickly gained a large and devoted following. 2005 saw the release of their debut EP, Adapting To Gravity.
After playing venues all over Florida for a couple of years, singer Nikki and guitarist Doug saw it was time to head out to California to win over the West Coast. In L.A., they teamed up with drummer Aaron Ficca, who has toured with acts like Macy Gray. In October 2014, the band released a collection of 3 singles called "Stasis" to follow up their second EP titled "The Escape Stage" which has received stellar feedback and has also continued to grab audiences' attention and widen their fan base.
Lucid Fly has spent the last few months working on new material for their upcoming full length album. Their songwriting is stronger than ever, and the band is excited to report that they returned to the studio August 2014. The release date is TBA.
The word is spreading, and their mission has only begun...stay tuned!!

We are an established, hardworking alternative/progressive rock band with a guitarist, drummer, and female singer. We’ve invested many years of energy and passion into the songwriting, development, and networking of our band, including top notch gear, strong internet presence, and many performances across the US.
We are finishing up the tracking of our 3rd CD and will begin rehearsing and booking for 2015, and want to find a bassist and additional guitarist with complementary style and personality to perform and tour with, and have an amazing time doing it! We love our music and our fans and it’s our ultimate goal to perform for them in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia in the near future.

2014 Wrap and Happy New Year!

Even though it flew by faster than any year in history, a lot went down in 2014! we hope everyone can reflect positively and appreciate it all — the good, the blessings, the unexpected, and even the not-what-we-hoped-for experiences that enriched us equally.
For Nikki and I, we can remember kicking off the year reaching new heights with our first “International” performance on the Progressive Nation at Sea cruise – not only the dream vacation, sharing dream stages filled with so many of our idols, but we came home with friends for life!
we can also thank 2014 for some incredibly rewarding long-distance collaborations. We got to work with Adam Kiger for the absolutely beautiful artwork for our newest “Stasis” EP and merch that we just put out this month. We got to again team up with our friend Brendan Dekora at the killer EastWest studios right here in Hollywood to record the tracks for that EP, then we did something brand new via the magic of the interweb so that two of the most talented producers outside of LA could mix them! It was a thrill to have the geniuses (or is it genii?) Forrester Savell and Adam Barber adding their magic touches to that EP, and we frickin loved collaborating with both of you guys. Despite the distance it was a flawless experience and perhaps the crown jewel of our achievements for the year.
Special thanks to one of our favorite people (and mega supporter of music and artists) Diggy Kat who has been super awesome by giving us the platform to share our love of discovering music on our new NegativeSp8ce monthly radio show. For the past 5 months that’s been yet another way we get to connect with like-minded music lovers all over the globe and share our discoveries and support the art that we love.
There’s been change and motion for sure and there’s no sign of it stopping anytime soon. Lucid Fly is already knee-deep in the recording process for the biggest release we’ve ever done and completely different than any other approach — new locations, new techniques, even new people. By the time that CD is ready and we perform again there will be some new gear and new faces up there with us as we add a new bassist and more instruments to our live show in 2015.
Even though it felt like most of our time might have been spent “behind the scenes” this year, we’ve enjoyed being part of the blossoming with all the bands who have been creating and promoting the music we love here in Los Angeles, and stoked to be part of that in the months to come!
With so much in motion, we’re stoked to see what comes out the other side in 2015 with our friends and families that have been there through it all, or even just for a part of the ride.. Happy New Year!

3 Brand New Singles Released, Artwork and New Radio Show!
We are proud to share that our 3 brand new tracks “Waiting”, “What Winter Was Like” and “In This Ocean” have officially all been released!! If you haven’t checked them out yet…you can still download them all for FREE off of our homepage at: www.lucidfly.com.
We especially want to thank everyone involved in making the release happen (Brendan Dekora, Forrester Savell, Adam Barber, Adam Kiger, and LuckyStarRadio – we appreciate all the hard work, time and effort you guys put in! Also, THANK YOU to our fans and supporters who have listened, shared and donated thus far – you guys ROCK and we really appreciate all the LOVE!
In addition, we wanted to give you an update and a little back story on the songs…
As many of you know, we had been writing new material for quite some time, and during this process we had the opportunity to track three songs with engineer Brendan Dekora (Muse, MuteMath) at East West Studios, in Hollywood, CA, who we previously worked with on The Escape Stage EP. These songs were really a continuation of the previous EP but also an evolution of Lucid Fly’s music stylistically. We had a few different people mix the songs in attempt at finding the right chemistry to record/mix our first full length album. As time went on, the 3 songs became their own “entity”, so we decided to release 1 song per month, and make this collection of songs special with limited edition merchandise. We ended up collaborating with Nikki’s former high school classmate, Adam Kiger, from Columbus, OH on a commissioned 36×48 acrylic painting done specifically for the tracks.
During this time, we also teamed up with LuckyStarRadio and created a new radio show called “NegativeSp8ce” where we debuted the songs. “NegativeSp8ce” is a monthly radio show hosted by Nikki & Doug (and guests) to discuss the alternative/progressive/rock scene, noteworthy shows/events and any and all things creative from all over the globe! It airs the first Tuesday of each month at 5pm PST on luckystarradio.com.
As for the 3 new songs…
The first song we released was “Waiting” (August 5th) – this title is fitting for so many reasons, and we felt it was appropriate because new music from Lucid Fly was long overdue! This song was mixed by Australian Producer/Mixer, Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus), who has worked on some of our all time favorite albums!
The second song released was “What Winter Was Like” (September 2nd), and the third song “In This Ocean” (October 7th); these were both mixed/mastered by engineer Adam Barber (Boyce Avenue, Sevendust, Alter Bridge). The band previously worked with Adam on 3 songs from their first cd release “Adapting to Gravity,” back in Orlando, FL. These 2 songs have behind the scenes videos from the recording process, as well as, from the tour we did during the time we were in the studio! You can check them out & subscribe on our homepage or at: www.youtube.com/lucidflymusic
What we are up to now…
In addition to the 3 new singles, the band has been in pre-production, and we have finished tracking the drums for 14 new songs!!! Currently, we are working with producers in Colorado on the guitars and vocals and are aiming to have the new album completed by late Spring 2015! We’ll keep you updated of course
When we are playing live next…
Since the main focus has been on the recording, we haven’t really booked any shows, but Doug and I have mentioned the possibility of doing some one off acoustic shows – so you never know – and as for the full live band…we have considered changing things up and adding some new members. Some of you may know that Go, our bassist, decided to pursue other interests, so we are definitely looking for a permanent replacement, but also, we would like to add a 2nd guitarist! We are really excited about all the new music and potential for the future – We really can’t wait to share it all with our fans!!
In the meantime, be sure to tune into Lucid Fly’s next “NegativeSpace Radio” show on Lucky Star Radio on Tuesday, December 2nd at 5:00pm PST for some more sonic goodness!
That’s all I got for now ~ MUCH LOVE!! xox
